May TBR

Last month was pretty much a fail for me TBR wise so I have decided to switch things up for this month. I have a ton of really amazing books sitting on my Netgalley shelf so I have decided that those will be my priority for May. Especially since we have 31 days next month so there’s a little bit more time to get some reading in. I will still be aiming to read my Literally Dead Book Club pick, my monthly classic, as well as my 3 Romanceopoly rolls. I would also love to catch up on all the TBR books I have missed so far this year but those will be bonus reads if I get to them.

Also, if you have noticed in the past I usually have a theme for picking my classic of the month. Black history month, Women’s history month and Arab American history month have been ones I have participated in so far this year. May happens to be Vascular Birthmark awareness month which is very close to my heart since my youngest son was born with a port wine stain on his chin and part of his bottom lip. So I thought for this month that for very book I read I will donate $5 to The Vascular Birthmark Foundation.

*I am also currently reading a review book that has a main character with a port wine stain and it comes out early next month so it’s perfect timing. Although it is a high school bully romance so it brings up a lot of emotions for me that are not always positive.  Which obviously is a me problem and not a book problem. Anyways, I just wanted to mention it since I think the timing is great and I’m excited for there to be more books about characters with vascular birthmarks.

Weekend Smutathon Wrap Up

This past weekend was the Weekend Smutathon  and while I did spend a good amount of time gardening I still managed to read 5 things! Three of the five were novellas but I still happy with what I read and I absolutely loved most of them. Also, on Saturday morning I watched CheleseaDollingReads Smutathon TBR and I added some more books to my list and actually ended up reading a few of them.

This is a short dark romance that really reminds me of Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) by Penelope Douglas. If you have read that one and enjoyed it then I think you would really like this one. Corrupt is a bully romance and there were moments of The Dare that gave me the same vibes. The Dare though is more of a BDSM dark romance where Manson is pushing Jessica to her limits. I ended up thinking they were really sweet together and I appreciated that Manson was constantly checking in with Jessica to make sure she was ok and knew she could stop their games.

This was steamy, sexy fun. This is an introduction novella to a book series involving these characters and I bought the second book as soon as I finished this one. I enjoyed the dynamic of the three of them together but I really loved Theo and Galen. I also can’t wait to see what happens in Meg life and how she finds herself out of her troubles.

Rating: 1/5

I’m sure you can tell from my rating that I really didn’t like this novella at all. I love a good forbidden age gap romance. That is probably my favorite trope when I’m reading smut but wow this just rubbed me the wrong way. It was so insta lovey and blah. I also hated how possessive he was of her which is another thing that I normally love but sometimes it comes across as creepy. And in this case it came across as super creepy. This is my first Jenika Snow so I hope that I have better luck with one of her other books.

I have put this book on so many TBR’s that I finally decided to finally read it and I’m so happy I finally did. This was the cute and fun romance that I was looking for. Meredith and Jack were such feisty characters but Jack’s grandma, Edith, is the ultimate sassy and fun character. Ever since I read A Work In Progress by Jackie Paxson I have been wanting to read another rom-com and while this one wasn’t as funny it definitely hit the spot. I also love Jack and Meredith and how they slowly became friends and then built on that.

*I also had put this book on my #Romanceopoly Readathon TBR but since I read it over the weekend I’m replacing it with The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler since that book also has blue on its cover. The Hypnotist is for the Coffee Shop space which is to read any book recommended to you in any genre.

This was such a sweet romance with the hottest sweet cinnamon roll of a hero. Our heroine is also so interesting because she is beyond super smart and was eight in high school and is the youngest heart surgeon ever. I do wish that we had gotten more of her backstory about that but I just think this was such a cute romance with unexpected characters that you don’t see that often. I also really liked that Rafe and Sloan were so great about communicating with each other and very honest about how they were feeling. This is another book that as soon as I finished I bought the second book in the series. Although, the next book is about a side character, Xeni, and she brought a lot of humor to this story so I am really looking forward to reading it.

Book Description: Introducing Annabeth Albert’s Hotshots series—the emotions and intensity of Chicago Fire with the raw, natural elements of Man vs. Wild.

Danger lurks everywhere for Central Oregon’s fire crews, but the biggest risk of all might be losing their hearts…

Smoke jumper Lincoln Reid is speechless to see Jacob Hartman among his squad’s new recruits. Linc had promised his late best friend he’d stay away from his little brother. And yet here Jacob is…and almost instantly, the same temptation Linc has always felt around him is causing way too many problems.

Jacob gets everyone’s concerns, but he’s waited years for his shot at joining the elite smoke jumping team, hoping to honor his brother’s memory. He’s ready to tackle any challenge Linc throws his way, and senses the chemistry between them—chemistry Linc insists on ignoring—is still alive and kicking. This time, Jacob’s determined to get what he wants.

Close quarters and high stakes make it difficult for Linc to keep his resolve, never mind do so while also making sure the rookie’s safe. But the closer they get, the more Linc’s plan to leave at the end of the season risks him breaking another promise: the one his heart wants to make to Jacob.

Excerpt

Linc had expected the crunch of tires on gravel that evening, but he still couldn’t stop the mix of dread and anticipation and lust at war in his gut as Jacob’s truck pulled into view. He let the dogs out as Jacob parked, making his way to the front porch slowly, trying to tone down his own eagerness. Shadow and Bandit could handle the foolish devotion for him. They both danced around Jacob, mesmerized as usual.

“Who’s a good dog? Is it you?” Jacob dispersed lavish amounts of praise and pats on the way to the house, coming to stand in front of him. Like Linc, he’d showered since work, arriving with unstyled damp hair and a fresh blue hoodie that advertised one of the local ski resorts. His smile, however, was far less cocky than Linc had expected. He’d won. He should be strutting.

And Linc wasn’t even sure what part of the week had made him give in to Jacob’s crazy idea. Jacob’s increased competence, taking on new tasks and skills with an ease that settled some of Linc’s nerves about his ability to do the work, was strangely appealing. Working alongside him did something for Linc’s soul that he’d never really been able to explain, but it was deeper than lust, more than the physical appeal of watching his muscles flex. It was the appreciation and joy with which Jacob approached every task. With each jump, his enthusiasm was infectious, making Linc see the mundane with fresh eyes. And perversely, there was also the way he’d been nothing other than professional all week. Distant even. Making Linc crave his usual flirty closeness and making him more restless with each passing day even as he respected the hell out of Jacob not continuing to push.

Finally, there had been this moment out there today when Jacob had looked like an angel disguised as a lumberjack, an almost reverent expression on his face as he’d taken in his surroundings. Maybe that was the moment Linc had known. He wasn’t ever getting over this through sheer force of will. There was want, which he had denied years now, and then there was need, this new level of attraction bolstered by the knowledge of what Jacob smelled and tasted like. Need didn’t listen to reason, cared not about well-thought-out rationale, and need continued to grow, wild and frantic. It was all kinds of ridiculous, giving Jacob’s plan a try, but he was simply that desperate.

“You’re not sending me away. Not this time.” Jacob sized him up, determined eyes, stubborn tilt to his chin.

“Nope.”

“Good.” One step. Two. Three, and they were face-to-face on the porch. Long inhale as their eyes met. Held. They’d kissed in grief, and they’d kissed in frustration, but Linc still hadn’t kissed him deliberately, in full control of his judgment and knowing exactly what was likely to happen the moment Jacob crossed the threshold to the house. The moment dragged on, charged, neither of them backing down, but no one taking that last step.

“You should come in.” Linc swallowed hard. If Jacob was waiting for some sort of signal, that might be the best Linc had in him, suddenly as unsure as a teenager. But maybe that invitation was all he needed to do, because Jacob grabbed his wrist, tugging him into the house, dogs rushing ahead of them. He swiveled to get the door, and when he turned back, Jacob was on him, pressing him into the wall. He might be younger, but there wasn’t a damn thing timid about him, and hell if that didn’t rev Linc even further.

Stretching, Jacob claimed his mouth with more of that intoxicating aggression. His lips were warm and soft and everything Linc had tried so hard not to remember. But his body did, each note of his taste and scent a familiar melody until he was welcoming Jacob like a long-lost lover with a groan. He let Jacob have his fun, plundering Linc’s mouth with an eager, needy tongue, until the last shred of his control snapped, and he had to take over. Nipping and sucking at Jacob’s lips, he drank in every moan and gasp. Fuck but he loved how Jacob didn’t back down one inch, sucking hard on Linc’s tongue, until Linc was no longer sure who was leading, only that it was all better than it had ever been because it was Jacob and he was right here, right now.

The novella is a form King has returned to over and over again in the course of his amazing career, and many have been made into iconic films, including “The Body” (Stand By Me) and “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” (Shawshank Redemption). A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly in this deliciously wicked and atmospheric thriller reminiscent of Agatha Christie from the author of The Hunting Party.

The bride ‧ The plus one ‧ The best man ‧ The wedding planner ‧ The bridesmaid ‧ The body

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.

And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.

They’re polar opposites.

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they’re living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer’s block.

Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.

Weekend Smutathon TBR + Recommendations

EVSA6CqWoAAjOlu-1

This weekend, April 25 & 26, Riley and Lainey are hosting a very relaxed Smutathon  where all you need to do is read as much smut as you want. Which just sounds like one of the best ways to spend a quarantine weekend. They’re no challenges but there is a group book that I already own so I’m excited to finally get a chance to read it. When I was coming up with a list of books I would like to get to this weekend I realized I had ended up with way too many so I decided to also make this a recommendation post as well. I will *fingers crossed* get to at least three or four of these but of course more is always better! These are a mixture of novellas and books but they are all stories that I desperately want to get too.

Group Book

*This is of course optional so there is no pressure to read it. It is free right now on Kindle though if you would like to join in!

*Novella

Meg Sanders has spent her life playing by the rules—until tonight. It’s her birthday and she’s determined to be a little wild and a whole lot carefree, at least until she has to get back to reality tomorrow. But the last thing she expects is to be seduced by two gorgeous men on the dance floor.

Theo and Galen are each incredibly sexy on their own, and potentially devastating as a pair—and they want her. Meg isn’t down for anything resembling complicated when her life is such a mess, but the pair win her over with the promise of a night out of her deepest, darkest fantasy—and that they walk the next morning with no strings attached.

After all, anything goes when it’s only for one night…

Books I really want to read & you might too!

When librarian Poe Markham takes the job at Thornchapel, she only wants two things: to stay away from Thornchapel’s tortured owner, Auden Guest, and to find out what happened to her mother twelve years ago. It should be easy enough—keep her head down while she works in the house’s crumbling private library and while she hunts down any information as to why this remote manor tucked into the fog-shrouded moors would be the last place her mother was seen alive. But Thornchapel has other plans for her…

As Poe begins uncovering the house’s secrets, both new and old, she’s also pulled into the seductive, elegant world of Auden and his friends—and drawn to Auden’s worst enemy, the beautiful and brooding St. Sebastian. And as Thornchapel slowly tightens its coil of truths and lies around them, Poe, Auden and St. Sebastian start unravelling into filthy, holy pleasure and pain. Together, they awaken a fate that will either anoint them or leave them in ashes…

From the author of the USA Today bestselling New Camelot series comes an original fairy tale full of ancient mysteries, lantern-lit rituals, jealousy, money, murder, sacred torment, and obsessions that last for lifetimes…

A full-length STANDALONE romantic comedy from USA TODAY bestselling author R.S. Grey.

Everyone in Cedar Creek, Texas, knows Jack McNight is an arrogant devil. Physically, I get it: he’s tan and fit, with coal-black hair that’s clearly been scorched by hellfire. Oh, and his personality? It burns just as hot.

When I show up on the doorstep of Blue Stone Ranch, I’m run-down and rockin’ my last pair of underwear. I’m hoping for a savior, but instead, I find him.

My opinion of Jack is marred by a dismal first impression, but his opinion of me is tainted even before I arrive. He’s heard I’m a spoiled princess there to take advantage of his goodwill. To him, I’m more trouble than I’m worth.

Our button-pushing banter should get under my skin. His arrogance should be a major turn-off. Problem is, devils are known to offer their own form of temptation.

Every one of his steely glares sends a shiver down my spine.

Every steamy encounter leaves me reeling.

Sure, it could be the Texas heat messing with my head, but there’s no way I’ll survive the summer without silencing him with a kiss and wrestling him out of those Wranglers.

Who knows…going to bed with the devil might just be the salvation I’ve been looking for all along.

DEVIL’S NIGHT is returning! Hiding places, chases, and all the games are back…

BANKS

Buried in the shadows of the city, there’s a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark, it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery.

But you think it’s true, don’t you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden twelfth floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don’t you?

You and your friends can try to scare me. You can try to push me. Because even though I struggle to hide everything I feel when you look at me–and have ever since I was a girl–I think maybe what you seek is so much closer than you’ll ever realize.

I will never betray him.

So sit tight.

On Devil’s Night, the hunt will be coming to you.

KAI

You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don’t know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again.

No one can know what I’ve turned into.

I want that hotel, I want to find him, and I want this over.

I want my life back.

But the more I’m around you, the more I realize this new me is exactly who I was meant to be.

This is not a novella but it is only 234 pages.

Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.

By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.

When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.

But that was where my fairytale ended.

Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.

At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.

I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

25711641._SY475_

I. Remember. Everything.

Only now I wish I didn’t.

When the fog is sucked away from my mind like smoke through a vacuum, the truth that has been beyond my reach for months finally reveals itself.

But the relief I thought I would feel never comes, and I’m more afraid now than I was the morning I woke up handcuffed in King’s bed.

Because with the truth comes dark secrets I was never meant to know.

I will put the lives of those I love most at risk if I let on that my memory has returned, or if I seek help from the heavily tattooed felon who owns me body and soul.

I don’t know if I’m strong enough to resist the magnetic pull toward King that grows stronger every day.

He’s already saved me in more ways than one. Now it’s my turn to do whatever it takes to save him.

Even if that means marrying someone else…

*Novella

I’ve been harboring a dark secret for two long years. I’ve been fantasizing about my fiancé’s father, thinking filthy thoughts that a good daughter-in-law should not be indulging in. So when I catch my fiancé cheating on me, there’s only one revenge that will fulfill all my needs.

I’m going to seduce his father. It’s dirty and it’s wrong, and I don’t care. I want him, so I mean to have him.

After this weekend, my ex won’t be the only one who calls his father Daddy.

There are many rules a priest can’t break.
A priest cannot marry. A priest cannot abandon his flock. A priest cannot forsake his God.

I’ve always been good at following rules.
Until she came.
My name is Tyler Anselm Bell. I’m twenty-nine years old. Six months ago, I broke my vow of celibacy on the altar of my own church, and God help me, I would do it again.
I am a priest and this is my confession.

Protective. Obsessive. And rough around the edges.

James Foster knows the rules: you don’t fall for your best friend’s little sister. Nina is too young, too reckless, and too busy saving the world to be tied down by the commitment he craves.

If he was smart, he’d stop wanting her. But she’s the one thing on earth James just can’t quit.

Fierce. Principled. And impossible to resist.

Political campaigner Nina Chapman is sick of one-time things. She wants forever, and she wants it with her brother’s best friend—but James still sees her as a child to be coddled.

So when a controversial article lands Nina in hot water, she finds herself under his protection and under his roof. It’s a shame James doesn’t want her in his bed, too.

…Or does he?

Warning: this red-hot novella contains one radical leftist heroine, one over-protective hero, one annoying childhood nickname, and a shared apartment with only one bed. Also, Brexit. But not too much, I promise.

Length: approx. 60,000 words (256 pages)

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Imprint: Carina Press

eBook On-Sale: April 20, 2020

eBook ISBN & Price: 9781488054037, $4.99 USD

Book Description: New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando returns to the Knights of Fury series with her most complicated hero yet. He may be the epitome of cool, but this MC president isn’t called Temper for nothing…

Every year, the hot, tatted biker comes into Abbie’s bar, orders whiskey and asks her out. Every year, Abbie turns him down. After all, dating a man that goes by Temper seems like a really bad idea, no matter how attracted she is to him.

But this year is different. Abbie’s different. Older, wiser and tired of being stuck behind the bar in a sleepy town. This year, she’s ready for whatever adventure the sexy but sweet biker has in store for her.

Or so she thinks…until an elegant candlelit dinner ends with a dead body.

Now Abbie finds herself on the ride of her life, whisked away to the big city in Temper’s protective custody. She should be scared, but—despite his nickname—it’s clear the last thing Temper would ever do is hurt a hair on her head. And when danger catches up with them, Abbie soon realizes that holding tight to her man while straddling a Harley may be the safest place of all.

Review

This is a sweet MC romance that I really liked. The only other MC books that I have read have been dark romances so this was a big departure for me but I think Fernando still did a great job of making the motorcycle club dark and sinister but in a more accessible way. Abbie was a great heroine who was put into a bad situation but still did what she could to make the best of it. I love that Abbie and Temper have a backstory and Fernando built on that so it didn’t come across at all insta lovey to me. Not only do Temper and Abbie have really great chemistry but they also have a genuine friendship and I think that is one of my favorite things about this book. There was also an amazing group of people in the MC and I look forward to reading more books set in this club in the future. Including the two that I haven’t read yet since I definitely want to go back and get the full story on those romances because Skylar and Izzy were fun and sassy characters in this book. I do think that the ending wrapped up everything a little too neatly for my taste but at least there was resolution for all the drama. If you haven’t read a MC romance before then this book is a great place to start since the core of the book is just a sweet romance. Keep reading for an excerpt from the first chapter of Temper!

TEMPER by Chantal Fernando Excerpt

It’s been a while since I’ve seen [Temper], and he looks good. It’s like the man doesn’t age. He’s tall, strong, and kind of mean looking, but he’s been nothing but nice and respectful toward me. We kind of have a routine going every time we see each other. We chat, we flirt, he asks if he can buy me dinner, and I say no. He accepts that and leaves, until next time.

I don’t know why I always say no anymore. The first time was a combination of him being a biker and feeling so much older than me. But the age thing doesn’t bother me that much anymore. Truth is I’ve never said yes, to any man, to any date. I get asked out by people coming into the bar, but you don’t have to be experienced to know what they are really looking for, and it’s not a loving, long-lasting relationship. My experience is severely lacking, aside from prom and the mistake I made after it, and there’s no saving me now. I’m going to be a spinster. Hopefully Ivy will give me some nieces and nephews I can claim as my own.

Temper places money on the table, with a huge tip, like he always does. “Seriously? Who tips that much?”

His lip twitches. “You can take yourself out to a nice dinner with it, since I know you’re never going to let me take you out.”

“You giving up that easily?” I tease, giving him a flirtatious smile. I don’t know where this sudden boldness is coming from, other than the fact that I don’t want him to stop asking me out, and I’ve only just realized this.

I’ve never met another man like Temper, and I don’t think I ever will. I see how people treat him, avoid him, and make sure not to challenge him. Hell, my own mother warned me to be friendly with him, but never too friendly. He has this air of menace about him, but over the years I’ve also seen how he treats his MC brothers like family, and he’s always respectful, even to the people who work here. I’ve seen him vulnerable when he talked about his Prez… Hammer was his name, I think. He’s never rude, or arrogant—to me, anyway—and he’s always generous and polite. When he speaks to me, he always uses a humble, gentle tone, one that I’ve come to enjoy listening to. I know there is another side to him, and I can’t help but want to get to know that more.

“It only took a few years of rejection,” he jokes, lifting the whiskey glass to his lips. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him make a joke before.

“Maybe this was the year I was going to say yes,” I reply, clearing my throat. I don’t know what’s come over me, but I have the feeling like if I truly do want to take a chance and go on this date, it’s now or never. I’m stuck here, in the same job, doing the same thing every damn day, and I deserve to have a little fun and do something reckless for once in my life. I’ve always been the good girl, the trusted daughter, and the responsible older sister, taking care of my family as much as I can, since my dad has never been around. I know his name, Cohen Pierce, and that he lives in California somewhere. But he wanted, and still wants, nothing to do with me, and that’s fine. I’ve accepted that.

But what have I ever done for me? Other than college, which I had to drop out of anyway, I can’t think of one single thing.

Temper lowers his glass and studies me, brown eyes filled with surprise and suspicion. “You want to go on a date with me? Why now?”

Shrugging, I lower my eyes to the counter before returning them to him. “Time for me to live a little.”

Being safe hasn’t gotten me anywhere in life.

WWW Wednesday 4/22/2020

img_1384-0

Today is Wednesday which means it’s time for my favorite weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. All you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What have you recently finished reading?
  • What do you think you will read next?

What are you currently reading?

I have read quite a few stories in Arabian Nights and I’m enjoying all of them. There are some that I enjoy more than others but I think that is to be expected. However, I don’t know if this is the right translation to be reading and when bookstores (or even the library) open back up I intend to flip through some editions of this book and see if there is one I like better.

Temper is a book that I am so close to finishing for a blog tour post tomorrow. I had put it down for the Reading Rush but I am really enjoying it. I have figured out this year that I am a sucker for a good MC (motorcycle club) romance so this one is right up my alley.

What have you recently finished reading?

I recently read these three for the stay at home Reading Rush and I’ll leave my wrap up for it below.

Reading Rush Weekend Wrap Up #stayhomereadingrush

44084930

I also finished this one up on Sunday and wow I don’t think I have ever had such a physical reaction to a book before. I will have a review up for this one soon but this book definitely deserves all the praise it has been getting.

What do you think you will read next?

36098733._SY475_

On Monday I DNF’d the book that I had picked for my Ancient Runes prompt for the OWLS readathon so I’m substituting it with this one. Earlier this month I read Pinborough’s recent release and I’m looking forward to reading this one that came out a couple of years ago. This weekend I am also taking part in the Smutathon weekend readathon and I will have my TBR for that up on Friday.

ARC Review: A Work In Progress by Jackie Paxson

AWorkInProgress

Publication Date: March 10, 2020

Pages: 326

Genre: Rom-Com

Rating: 5/5

This absolutely hilarious book follows Teagan who on her 39th birthday makes a bucket list of things she would like to accomplish before turning 40… including losing her virginity. This leads to Teagan going on various dates while also dealing with a huge project at work with her boss, Grayson.

Teagan is the best main character and her humor had me rolling in laughter. Another fantastic aspect of this story are Teagan’s family and friends. This cast of characters added so much heartwarming fun and endless support that I can’t help but hope that Paxson writes more books involving this friendship group. There was also a scene in this book containing all the characters where I was actually crying with laughter which I have to say a book has never done to me before.

Grayson is the swooniest book boyfriend ever and I was dying over how perfect he is. I loved the chemistry and conflict between him and Teagan. I feel that their relationship was very realistically done and I enjoyed seeing their friendship and romantic feelings grow. I loved the many ridiculous situations Teagan and Grayson would find themselves in and how they managed to get through them together. Also, the many dates that Teagan went on were so hilariously perfect and outlandish that I found this book hard to put down.

This is easily one of my favorite books that I have ever read and I will definitely be rereading it soon. Teagan’s character reminds me of a grown up version of Georgia Nicholson (although we can all agree that she would never be a 39 year old virgin) but if you loved those books then I think you will also love this one.

After that, “just friends” goes out the window in favor of friends with benefits.

It’s all going great…until it isn’t.

#Romanceopoly Readathon TBR

readathon1.jpg

I’m so excited to participate in the first round of the romanceopoly readathon for 2020. Mostly because I have fallen behind and this is a great opportunity to catch up. There are 7 different challenges and like usual I have picked a book for each one even though I definitely won’t get them all read. This readathon goes from April 27-May 3 and is based around the year long reading prompt game romanceopoly  which has a really fun monopoly type board. If you haven’t been participating yet this year but it still looks intriguing and/or fun then you can definitely still partake. All the info you need is on the website linked above and I really enjoy moving around the board every month.

I’m going to be sharing the challenges and also what board space that particular book is picked from. I am currently working my way through the sun pack.

A Darker Shade final for Irene

Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

36199084._SY475_

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases — a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice — with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan — from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…
