Wow, did this book take me on a ride. I thought this was just going to be a fun forbidden romance, and while it definitely was that, it is also so much more emotional then I was expecting. There were parts of this book that brought me to tears and I love the ultimate message that we can be stronger than our demons.
The banter between Asher and Tessa was sexy and I loved everything about watching them fall in love. This is the third book in the series and we are seeing Tessa deal with the fall out of the events in the previous books and her story does get quite dark. The author has trigger warnings for sexual abuse and suicide and like I said this book did get a strong emotional reaction out of me so please be aware of that going into it. Asher is basically thrown into a teaching job because his career as a NFL quarterback is at a standstill due to injury. I instantly connected to both characters and I really enjoyed seeing them overcome so many obstacles together. Tessa is so broken by the things that she has been through and watching Asher show up for her again and again was breathtaking.
I’m also obsessed with the fact that the author has Asher being a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. Not only is it fun to see an author use a real team and not a made up one, they are also my favorite team. I know that the characters in the story aren’t real but it added a whole other layer of authenticity for me just imagining that they were real players. Which I know sounds slightly psychotic, but I am a huge football fan and I never miss a game, so it was thrilling for me.
If you love romances that really pull at your emotions and you think you can handle the storyline then I highly recommend this book. I went into this book thinking it would be an Aria and Ezra kind of vibe (Pretty Little Liars) but it was so much better than that. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series and I cannot wait to read the fourth (and final?) book. I feel like the epilogue at the end of this book sort of gave some hints for the next book and I am so intrigued to follow up with it.
