COACH ME
By Shanora Williams
Release Date: May 14
When I met Amber Lakes, I had no idea that she’d become a shining star in my dark, miserable life.
Her smile was never supposed to warm my heart, and the sight of her tears was never supposed to make me want to hunt down the person who’d caused them.
We were never supposed to touch, or kiss, or do so many dirty things on campus that I knew could jeopardize my career…
None of it was supposed to happen because she’s the student—my athlete—and I’m her college track coach.
I could lose everything by being with her, but I’ve fallen too damn hard, and despite how big the risks are, it’s too late to turn back now.

Review
This is one of my favorite age gap romances that I have ever read. Amber and Coach Torres are both characters that are easy to fall in love with and I loved seeing how they interacted with each other. This book does a great job of really building up to their romance and I really appreciated the pacing of everything. It made the story feel way more realistic since the majority of this book takes place over many months.
Beyond just having track in common, Torres and Amber both have dealt with, and are still dealing with, adversity regarding the color of their skin. I love that the author didn’t hide the reality of what life is like for people of color and really confronts the reader with how much harder things are for them. It also helped to make this book feel so real since most of the adversity these characters go through is from how other people are reacting to, or have reacted, to them as opposed to over the top drama between the two of them.
I cannot recommend this book enough. It hit all the marks for me and I need some more Shanora Williams in my life. Thank goodness she has a quite a backlist because I have fallen in love with her writing. I also kind of hope that one day we get to see these characters again, particularly in a book centered around Amber’s roommate, Kendall.
