This week has gone by surprisingly fast for me and I can’t believe that it is already Wednesday. My kids are officially off Spring Break and are doing distance learning so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it. This fun weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions.
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you will read next?
What are you currently reading?
I’m reading Truths I Never Told You for a blog tour next month and I’m enjoying it although it’s not what I thought it was going to be. I thought it would be about the mystery of the main character finding out what happened to her mom almost forty years ago. While the mystery aspect is still there it is more a book about postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. I think it is interesting but I also feel like if I didn’t have a personal connection to this story I wouldn’t like it as much.
I realized last week that I have only read one of my TBR books so I’m trying to focus only on those this week. My reading has significantly slowed down so I know I won’t finish them all this month which is disappointing but obviously none of us could have predicted how much our lives would be changing. I am loving The Joy Luck Club and it is also another book about motherhood. Amy Tan’s writing is absolutely beautiful and I love every part of this book. I know I read this in high school and also watched the movie then but I honestly don’t remember any of the story! I’m only 33 so it’s not like it was that long ago…. although I guess it kind of is.

I loved the first part of this book but about half way through it turned into a complete convoluted mess. I am honestly so disappointed by this and I almost gave it one stars but decided that since I did really like the beginning I would give it two. Graham Moore also made a bizarre and tasteless choice to use his POC characters to talk about race and racism. First off it is something that wasn’t even needed in the story and second of all in 2020 you would think if he wanted to make these race proclamations he would choose to use a white male character to do so. I think I will be avoiding this author in the future.
What do you think you will read next?
This book is on my TBR and I am also so in love with this series. The Hades Hangmen books means so much to me and I read all seven books (and three novellas) in about two weeks at the beginning of the year. I know that I will fly though this book in probably a day and I can’t wait to be back in this world.
