My boys went back to school today (Thursday) so I haven’t devoted as much time to reading in the past week but I’m happy with what I got done. Including working on some reviews for future posts and for one I posted this week.

I’ve read a few more stories in Something Followed us Home and so far I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ve only really liked one story but I do appreciate that I’m getting to sample authors that I might not have otherwise.
I’ve been wanting to read The God of the Woods since it first came out a couple of years ago and I decided that if I didn’t read it this month then I would have to wait until next year. Somewhere in the last couple of years I saw or read that this is the perfect August book (maybe it mainly takes place in August?) so I’ve been saving it. With school starting I’ve barely had time to read (and I’m in the middle of a ridiculous amount of books!) so I’m only 34 pages in. I love how the story is being told and I can’t wait to delve into more of the mystery but I do think it is a bit overwritten. I may change my mind once I’m more firmly gripped by the book and am used to the prose. I do know that it is a literary mystery but at the same time I’m not a fan of every single action, thought, and description being overly done.
My current audiobook is A Court of Ice and Ash, the second book in The Broken Kingdoms series. I mainly listen at work so I’m just over 20% and I’m enjoying it. I like how the world is being expanded by new characters and locations. This book is also told through both our FMC and MMC so we are getting a more complete picture of the different sides of the conflict. I have no idea where this story is going and considering there is 7 more books after this I’m not sure I’ll know for a good while.
I’m at the very end of Paradise and wow this book is a masterpiece. I think I only have about 30-40 pages left and I’m a bit anxious to finally find out what happens after the events of the first chapter. The books starts with a brutal event and then delves us back into the past to tell us how we got there. Now I’m at the end where we are seeing it about to happen and I’m nervous for the outcome.
Chosen Son is the conclusion to Fallen City and it immediately picks up where the last one ended. I’m ten chapters in and so enthralled. I brought my Kindle to my son’s haircut appointment and I was so into the book I didn’t even hear them calling my name to check out his hair. I am slightly disappointed that we are still only getting our FMC and MMC’s pov’s but we are getting some early reveals so I’m looking forward to finding out where this story is going to go.

I decided to dnf The Woman in Ward 9 because it was entirely too predictable. Which I mentioned in my last post but then it became outlandish and I decided my time would be better spent reading something else.
Finished
I gave Curse of Shadow and Thorns 4 stars. It was a great start to a romantasy series and I didn’t see the ending coming at all. I thought once the marriage plot was introduced that I knew where this story was going to go but I was pleasantly wrong. As you can see from above I already started book two.
I recently posted my review for Fallen City which you can read here. I gave it four stars and I’m loving this series. I think this fall I will read either Spells for Forgetting or The Unmaking of June Farrow since I’m eager to read more from Adriene Young.
