This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I picked up Invisible Girl for the first time almost two weeks ago, read 20ish pages and then got distracted by other things. I picked it back up a couple of nights ago and I’m now on the second part, so about 100 pages in and while this is a sloooww build up to the actual story, I am engaged and want to keep reading. I don’t particularly like any of the characters (it is actually revolting to read from one character’s perspective) but I am looking forward to seeing where Jewell takes the story.

I started Horrid yesterday because I was at the park with my kids and I forgot to bring a book with me so I started this one on my Kindle app. I am only 15% in but wow is the writing so good. I didn’t look at the synopsis so I don’t know much about it other than our main character eats paper and it is a haunted house story. Right now, our main character Jane, is giving me serious Stevie from Truly Devious vibes if you swapped Stevie’s anxiety for Jane’s pica. The writing is very creepy and atmospheric and if there wasn’t the Big Brother finale tonight, I think I would just crawl into bed and read this whole thing.

I am so close to finishing White is for Witching but I don’t want it to be over so I am reading it in slow burst here and there. I am in love with Oyeymi’s writing and the way she has formatted this story. Strangely enough, one of our narrators, Miranda also suffers from/with (I apologize I don’t know the correct terminology) pica but hers is related, at least in part, with her eating disorder. The creepy house really comes to life in this story and is actually one of our narrators. This book is so original, haunting, creepy, graphic and beautifully done. Although, I’m not quite finished yet, so maybe I should hold off on gushing about it until I see how I feel about the ending!

*Not pictured* I’m still keeping up with my Shirley readalong and we will be finishing it Saturday. I was obsessed with this book but now it has taken a turn and we are reading from the perspective of a young, not very likable, boy and while I understand the different perspective it is bringing to the story it has taken away some of my enjoyment. We are getting some payoff of the angsty romances which still makes me excited to see how Charlotte Bronte wraps it up.

What did you recently finish reading?

Feel the Fire by Annabeth Albert

Pumpkin Everything was a five star super cute small town romantic comedy. There was no mystery aspect but it gave off a lot of comforting cozy vibes so I have been referring to this book as a cozy romance. I don’t know if that is actual genre or not but if it’s not then it should be! I go more into what I felt about this book here but I hope to have a full review up soon. This book is on Kindle Unlimited if you want to give it a try!

Dirty First Dates: Halloween Haunt is a super short erotic BDSM story that takes place at a Halloween carnival. All the Dirty First Dates short stories are a part of Kindle Unlimited and if you love dark romances then I highly recommend them. Harley Laroux is one of my favorite dark romance authors and she hasn’t even come out with a full length novel yet! If you love these short stories than I also highly suggest you check out her novella, The Dare.

What do you think you’ll read next?

If I finish the books I am currently reading then these are the ones I will choose between. Snowblind was recommended to my by Abby at Crime by the Book because I asked her for a Nordic Noir locked room mystery and this is what she chose for me. I have been dying to read it ever since and it honestly just sounds amazing. I started reading Nemesis back in August and then I had that horrible reading slump but I have been thinking about it ever since and I’m less than a hundred pages from the end.

  1. I haven’t tried Harley Laroux, but I do love dark romance so I’m definitely going to check these stories out. Have a great reading week!
