TBR

June TBR

This month I decided to drastically switch things up and complete redo the way I pick my TBR. I love watching TBR games on Youtube and I wanted to try to implement that on my blog so I went with what seemed easiest: a wheel. I downloaded a wheel app on my phone and added in a bunch of prompts to help me choose what to read. I have been really failing at my TBRs the last few months so I am hoping that by doing this I will actually stick to it. I also feel like I only tend to read romance and thrillers and while I love both I also enjoy a variety of genres that I am barely reading this year.  The one thing I’m not too sure about was how many spins to do. I have consistently read about twenty plus books every month but I also wanted to leave myself some space for review books and mood reads. I ended up going with 12 but I might adjust that next month depending on how things go in June. I also kept my three romanceopoly picks that I usually do because I have really been enjoying taking part in that.

Lowest Rated

*This only has a 2.70 rating on Goodreads. Which is kind of shocking since it is a classic. So I have no idea what I’m getting into with this one!

‘Reader, if you’re ready, so am I.’

These witty vignettes, set in Charlotte Brontë’s imaginary world of Angria, feature debauched aristocrats, high-society courtesans and the rakish, brooding hero Zamorna, and offer a fascinating insight into Brontë’s early writing.

One of 46 new books in the bestselling Little Black Classics series, to celebrate the first ever Penguin Classic in 1946. Each book gives readers a taste of the Classics’ huge range and diversity, with works from around the world and across the centuries – including fables, decadence, heartbreak, tall tales, satire, ghosts, battles and elephants.

Thriller

*I have a blog tour review for this that goes up on June 6 so I’m going to read this the first few days of the month.

“Spellbinding. Another outstanding novel by Kimberly Belle, masterfully written to lure you in and never let go.” – Samantha Downing, USA Today bestselling author of My Lovely Wife

When Charlotte married the wealthy widower Paul, it caused a ripple of gossip in their small lakeside town. They have a charmed life together, despite the cruel whispers about her humble past and his first marriage. But everything starts to unravel when she discovers a young woman’s body floating in the exact same spot where Paul’s first wife tragically drowned.

At first, it seems like a horrific coincidence, but the stranger in the lake is no stranger. Charlotte saw Paul talking to her the day before, even though Paul tells the police he’s never met the woman. His lie exposes cracks in their fragile new marriage, cracks Charlotte is determined to keep from breaking them in two.

As Charlotte uncovers dark mysteries about the man she married, she doesn’t know what to trust—her heart, which knows Paul to be a good man, or her growing suspicion that there’s something he’s hiding in the water.

Reverse Harem

*In the future I think I will change this to reverse harem/ menage romance since I had a hard time finding a reverse harem that is already on my TBR. This one is on Kindle Unlimited if you think it sounds good.

I’m going to scream all five names.

When I get evicted from my apartment, I move in with my older brother in his ocean-view mansion.

And he has other guests. Five sexy-as-hell, dirty, rich guests, to be exact.

Some of them remember when I was just a little girl, and some of them only care about the woman I’ve become. But all of them keep staring at me with that look, the one that makes my whole body tremble with desire.

My brother would freak if he found out that I want to taste all of his friends, and I can’t afford to be homeless. But my five men definitely aren’t stopping.

And I can’t say no when they sneak into my room in the middle of the night, half-dressed, their hands on my skin. There might be something here, something even deeper than the way their touch pushes me to my limits.

The craziest part is, they don’t mind if they’re sharing me.

And I don’t mind getting passed between them, from one ripped guy to the next.

My Brother’s Five Friends is an over-the-top reverse harem romance with lots of steamy scenes and some bad language. It’s only recommended for readers 18+.

My Brother’s Five Friends is a STANDALONE, full-length novel. No cliffhanger. Guaranteed HEA. Includes bonus content!

Kindle Unlimited

*I put this on my TBR a couple of months ago and I never read it so I’m going to give it another shot since I have wanted to read this since it came out.

Beware of the woods and the dark, dank deep.

He’ll follow you home, and he won’t let you sleep.

Who are the Sawkill Girls?

Marion: the new girl. Awkward and plain, steady and dependable. Weighed down by tragedy and hungry for love she’s sure she’ll never find.

Zoey: the pariah. Luckless and lonely, hurting but hiding it. Aching with grief and dreaming of vanished girls. Maybe she’s broken—or maybe everyone else is.

Val: the queen bee. Gorgeous and privileged, ruthless and regal. Words like silk and eyes like knives, a heart made of secrets and a mouth full of lies.

Their stories come together on the island of Sawkill Rock, where gleaming horses graze in rolling pastures and cold waves crash against black cliffs. Where kids whisper the legend of an insidious monster at parties and around campfires.

Where girls have been disappearing for decades, stolen away by a ravenous evil no one has dared to fight… until now.

Pet Pick

*This one was pretty fun to do. I picked three books out and my kids put a treat on each one and they thought it was so funny trying to get our cat to participate. She was very confused by the whole thing but she did a great job because she picked the Literally Dead Book Club pick. So she got some extra treats and loving for doing such a great job!

Set on a remote island off the Irish coast, this is one guest list no one would want to be on, just as no one would have wanted an invitation to the New Year’s Eve party in Foley’s previous novel, The Hunting Party . Lives unravel amid the revelry on an eerie and remote island as family and friends assemble for a glam wedding in an updated Murder on the Orient Express. Each of the principal characters has a reason to want one of their number dead, there are old secrets, and one of them is murdered.

Hunter Pick

*Hunter is my eight year old and he thought it was so funny that he picked this book. I’m a little nervous about tackling it along with all the other reads I need to get done but I have been wanting to read it for so long that I am hopeful that I can get it done.

“Brimming with scandal and an equal amount of heart…a sweeping yet intimate look at the lives of some of history’s most notorious figures from Vanderbilts to the Prince of Wales… A must-read.”—Chanel Cleeton, New York Times bestselling author of When We Left Cuba and Next Year in Havana

“Bryn Turnbull takes a story we think we know and turns it on its head, with captivating results… A beautifully written, meticulously researched and altogether memorable debut.”—Jennifer Robson, USA TODAY bestselling author of The Gown

For fans of The Paris Wife and The Crown , this stunning novel tells the true story of the American divorcée who captured Prince Edward’s heart before he abdicated his throne for Wallis Simpson.

In the summer of 1926, when Thelma Morgan marries Viscount Duke Furness after a whirlwind romance, she’s immersed in a gilded world of extraordinary wealth and privilege. For Thelma, the daughter of an American diplomat, her new life as a member of the British aristocracy is like a fairy tale—even more so when her husband introduces her to Edward, Prince of Wales.

In a twist of fate, her marriage to Duke leads her to fall headlong into a love affair with Edward. But happiness is fleeting, and their love is threatened when Thelma’s sister, Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt, becomes embroiled in a scandal with far-reaching implications. As Thelma sails to New York to support Gloria, she leaves Edward in the hands of her trusted friend Wallis, never imagining the consequences that will follow.

Bryn Turnbull takes readers from the raucous glamour of the Paris Ritz and the French Riviera to the quiet, private corners of St. James’s Palace in this sweeping story of love, loyalty and betrayal.

Goodreads

*I went to my Goodreads want to read shelf and randomized it and this was the first book at the top of that list.

The bestselling debut with over a million copies sold that launched Tana French, “required reading for anyone who appreciates tough, unflinching intelligence and ingenious plotting” (The New York Times), who is “the most interesting, most important crime novelist to emerge in the past 10 years” (The Washington Post)

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox—his partner and closest friend—find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.

Richly atmospheric and stunning in its complexity, In the Woodsis utterly convincing and surprising to the end.

When her father leaves the Church in a crisis of conscience, Margaret Hale is uprooted from her comfortable home in Hampshire to move with her family to the north of England. Initially repulsed by the ugliness of her new surroundings in the industrial town of Milton, Margaret becomes aware of the poverty and suffering of the local mill workers and develops a passionate sense of social justice. This is intensified by her tempestuous relationship with the mill-owner and self-made man, John Thornton, as their fierce opposition over his treatment of his employees masks a deeper attraction.

In North and South, Elizabeth Gaskell skillfully fuses individual feeling with social concern, and in Margaret Hale creates one of the most original heroines of Victorian literature.

Color

*I used a random color generator and it came up with a goldish yellow color. I immediately knew which book I wanted for this prompt since I meant to read it last month but never got to it.

iBooks
