I hope that you all are having a great week! It is a very warm yet windy day and my allergies are out of control. I have it under control most days but when the wind is blowing all the pollen around it is hard to do anything but just deal with it. We are hopefully going to be getting some rain next week which I really hope happens because we really need it in California. Wow that was a lot of talk about the weather! Let’s get into talking about some books. My favorite weekly meme is hosted by Sam and all you need to do to participate is answer the following 3 W questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you will read next?
What are you currently reading?
I have been reading Arabian Nights over the last few weeks. Some of the stories I really love and others take me forever because I’m just not that interested in it. I am currently on the story of Aladdin and the magic lamp which I am really loving. I always think it is so interesting how dark and twisted the stories our favorite Disney movies are based on.
I started reading Sometimes I Lie yesterday and I wish I had more time to devote to it because I hate putting it down. I have heard people rave about this book for years and I can finally see why. I have a few different theories as to what happened to our main character (who narrates part of the story while she has a coma… so original!) and I can’t wait to see if I got any of it right.
What did you recently finish reading?
On Sunday I read Night which is a short but harrowing read. The most heartbreaking part of this story was how many opportunities Elie Wiesel and his family had to escape before the Nazi’s came to Romania and yet they just couldn’t imagine the horrors that were awaiting them. Which is completely understandable because if we didn’t grow up knowing about the atrocities the Nazi’s committed there is no way we could imagine anyone doing those things to another human being.
After I read Night I picked up A Darker Shade of Magic which was my last read for the Romanceopoly Readathon. I didn’t manage to finish it until Monday but I really enjoyed this fantasy and I have already picked the second book up on my Libby app. I don’ t know if I will get a chance to read it since all the books I want to read this month are also ebooks and those books are my priority.
What do you think you will read next?
I think this weekend I will pick up this book since it is my Literally Dead Book Club pick and when I finish this the only books left on my TBR are my bonus Romanceopoly books and all the Netgalley books I want to read this month. Also, this book is a YA thriller which are pretty much the only YA books I still read and I hope that I love it. I have read one of Megan Miranda’s adult thrillers, All the Missing Girls and I gave it four stars.
Cassie, I totally agree it is reallt interesting how dark and twisted the stories are that Disney films are based on – I haven’t read Arabian Nights (although you’re making me think I should), but I thought the same thing when I read the Han Christian Anderson’s and the Brothers Grimm’s original fairy tales. Happy reading this week! 🙂

I have read a couple of Hans Christian Anderson stories but I haven’t yet read any Brothers Grimm. I definitely need to! I was shocked when I read the original Little Mermaid story 😂
