Buzzwordathon Day 7

We made it! The final day of the readathon. I did not read four books like I wanted to but I am really enjoying the last two books that I started for the readathon.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I only finished the chapter that I started on Saturday but that was all that I read of this one. Since I’m watching Game of Thrones with my husband at night I am not able to read for long periods of time which is really hindering my progress with this book. I usually read a chapter here and there throughout the day and it’s just not working for me with this book. I have sort of come to a stand still with this one.

What She Knew by Gilly Macmillian

On Saturday I read 11% of this and on Sunday I got all the way to 46%. There has been some unexpected stuff happening and I still have an idea of what I want to happen but honesty this story could go anywhere. It is becoming more of a difficult read though the more we get into the investigation. Ben is a missing 8 year old and I have a 9 and a 7 year old. I can’t help but put myself in Rachel’s position and it is a heartbreaking situation.

Books Completed: 3

Check back tomorrow to find out my thoughts on the readathon as a whole. And thanks for coming on this journey with me ❤

Buzzwordathon Day 6

I contemplated all day if I should post this because day 6 was a complete fail :< It was a thunderstorm and hail kind of a day which just puts me into the mood to lay on the couch and watch tv all day. Although, instead of doing that I got sucked into a Reddit vortex instead. Which is also irritating because if I was going to be reading I should have been reading my readathon books. I don’t often have lazy days though so I’m trying to not beat myself up too much about it. That does mean that I’m probably only going to finish the 3 books that I have already read earlier since I have lots of stuff planned for Sunday.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I read a whole 6 pages of this. I think this book is superbly written and I have so many thoughts on this but I feel like they are half formed because I only know a little more than half the story. I definitely feel like you could administer a personality test based on who you think the baby belongs to. Ng does an incredible job of not taking sides and just leaving it up the reader to decide. I’m also really annoyed at the character of Izzy. I don’t understand her intense rudeness to others. Well, her mom I understand but not the way she talks to strangers and family friends. I also can’t believe this book was written in 2017 and yet perfectly captures 1997.

What She Knew by Gilly Macmillian

I only read 4% more of this book. I remember hearing this book has a great ending and I have an idea of what I want to happen and I can’t wait to see if I’m right. I don’t want to say what it is in case I’m right or close to right and accidentally spoil someone. I will say at 11% into this that I can’t imagine anyone who enjoys thrillers not liking this book.

Books Completed: 3

My new goal is to hopefully have these two books finished by the time I post my readathon wrap up on Tuesday. Hopefully day 7 is a much better reading day.

Buzzwordathon Day 5

This was a pretty productive reading day for me. I’m pretty happy with my progress so far in the readathon. I have two days left and I hope to finish out strong.

What Happened In Vegas by Sylvia Day

I was scrolling through the Libby app seeing if there were books that piqued my interest that had a buzzword in the title and I found this terrible book. The only plus side to this read was how insanely short it is. I have now technically finished 3 books but this book was basically a chapter long. I have already reviewed this along with some other books and you can check out my full thoughts on this book here. Long story short it was a 1 star read for me. I would rather have read another chapter of the book I started after this one.

What She Knew by Gilly Macmillan

I have wanted to read this book since it first came out in 2015 and I have no idea why I kept putting it off. I am only 7% into the story and I am hooked. I want to find out all the things and I can’t wait for the story to unfold. The reason I am so invested already is because of the way the story is told. The prologue is told from 1 year after Rachael’s son Ben went missing. The book is told from Rachel’s point of view and also the lead detective, Jim and his perspective is, I think, mainly told through reports he is writing to his therapist. Um yes please. It is starting off so strong and I am predicting that this will be a five star read for me. I recently read and reviewed (the last book in a collection of mini reviews) her newest release I Know You Know and I gave it four stars.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I think on Day 4 I was on page 76 and now I’m on page 140 so I made a lot of good progress on this. I’m roughly half way through and we have finally gotten to the adoption part of the story. I don’t know why I’m so hung up on when that finally happened because I am really liking this book a lot. I just get so caught up on what the synopsis says that I thought the adoption would be a bigger part of the story. This would be so much better described as a book about family dynamics centering around mother daughter relationships. If I had to rate it right now I would probably give it 4.5 stars and I think it will be interesting to see what I give it once I finish it.

Books Completed: 3(ish)

Buzzwordathon Day 4

This is going to be the shortest update ever but I didn’t do much reading this day.

Home is Where the Bark Is by Stella St.Claire

I finished this one! This was a super fun read. I will be doing another collection of mini reviews on Saturday and this book will be included in that post. In case you don’t want to check that out I will let you know now that I gave this book four stars. There are two more books that our already out in this series and I want to try to find them at my library.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I only read one chapter of this. I’m still liking it and I still have no idea who the adoption story centers around. I saw that Reese Witherspoon said this is a great book about motherhood which I can completely understand. I haven’t really been prioritizing this book but I do plan on finishing it before the readathon is over.

Books Completed: 2

Sorry this is so short. I feel confident that I will have a more productive Day 5.

Buzzwordathon Day 3

Hey everyone. I have decided to switch things up from how I was previously doing these readathon updates. After I published day 2’s post I spent some time thinking about what I really want to accomplish with these posts. The first two days I was basically doing Instagram on my blog and I didn’t really like it. My blog is for me to talk about books and I felt like I was barely doing that. What I really want to do is to give you daily updates about what I am thinking about each book as I read it. I also want to update you on my daily progress through the readathon. So I am going to be trying out a new format for these updates.

The Nowhere Girls

I finished my first book of the readathon!! I have already reviewed this on my blog so I will leave a link to that post here.

Little Fires Everywhere

I did read a chunk of this book and I am now on page 71. I am liking it but I’m also confused because the synopsis says its about how a community deals with the adoption of a Chinese American baby and none of that has happened yet. I don’t even have a clue one who is adopting the baby and this is only a 336 page book so I’m not too sure how things are going to unravel. But everyone raves about this book so I still have high hopes for it.

Home is Where the Bark Is

After I finished Nowhere Girls I went on to my kindle app and just scrolled through to see if anything got my eye that had a buzzword in the title. I saw this one that I recently bought and I figured it would be perfect because it is a cozy mystery. I love cozy mysteries so much and I haven’t read a single one this year. They are also super quick reads so it has that going for it to. If you aren’t familiar with cozy mysteries they are basically fun stories told in a small community setting where there isn’t a lot of violence. Everything is super light and fun. These are feel good stories that I enjoy so much. My favorite ones involve baking and inns. The one that I am currently reading is obviously about dogs and the main character is trying to figure out who killed the dead person in her yard. I read 68% of this one.

If you are participating in buzzwordathon I hope that you are having a successful readathon. If you aren’t participating I hope that you are having a great reading week.

Buzzwordathon Day 2

Here is how the second day of the Buzzwordathon went for me:

10:14 am

I finally made myself a cup of coffee and read a chapter of Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. This is one of the books that I started last week and its due back to the library early next week. I finished part one and I think this might be one of the best written non fiction books that I have ever read. I will do a full review of this once I am done reading it.

12:32 pm

After my little one went down for a nap I did some stuff in my planner and then continued on reading Nowhere Girls.

2:05 pm

My boys and I had a snack and then I picked up some around the house. While I was eating I read some more of Nowhere Girls.

3:00 pm

After snack we headed outside for some fresh air. I also managed to meal prep some breakfast items to set us up for the rest of the week. I’m obsessed with the egg bites from Starbucks but no way am I buying those often so I make my own egg muffins that are a pretty good dupe. I haven’t perfected my recipe yet so I can’t share it but if you they sound good to you then I’m sure you can find a ton of recipes from Google.

6:48 pm

I needed to wash my hair so I took the time to do a mask and put on my favorite lip balm.   I also read the Nowhere Girls for about half an hour before this.

9:19 pm

IMG_2202

All the kids were in bed so I curled up on the couch with my husband and watched some Game of Thrones. We are into the 5th season now so we will probably be finished with the show early next month. I love this show so much but I’m really liking the 5th season because stuff is starting to differ significantly from the books. I also read a tiny bit of Little Fires Everywhere before bed.

Book Stats:

Nowhere Girls: 88%

Little Fires Everywhere: 34 pages

Today wasn’t a very productive readathon day. I kept finding myself distracted by housework and my kids. Which is why I usually do the majority of my reading when they are in bed but like I mentioned yesterday that isn’t really happening because of GoT. I still feel confident that I can finish 4 books this week so fingers crossed that happens.
