Mini Netgalley Reviews #3

The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha (January 21, 2025)

5 stars

I read this book almost two years ago and it has stuck with me all this time. This was a wild thriller that I read in one sitting because I couldn’t not get enough of it. A rich family has gathered on their private island to hear the succession plan of their patriarch and things quickly unravel from there. This book was so dramatic and really delivered on the twists and turns. If you are a fan of domestic thrillers than I could not recommend this one more.

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid (May 27, 2021)

5 stars

Malibu Rising is an incredible family drama primarily set in a 24 hour period with lots of flashbacks for context. I adored every single messy moment of this book and loved how realistic all the characters were. No one writes characters quite like Taylor Jenkins Reid and this book is definitely one of my all time favorites.

Jackal by Erin E. Adams (October 4, 2022)

4 stars

Jackal is a horror mystery novel with a hint of supernatural following main character, Liz, who is having to deal with her to past to help find her young god daughter who goes missing during a wedding. This novel really confronts themes of racism and classism head on in an unflinching way that I really appreciated. There are also a lot of other layers and themes in this book all wrapped up in a very compelling mystery involving young black girls that have a history of going missing in this small Appalachian town. Once I started this book I had a hard time putting it down and I’m looking forward to reading more from Adams in the future.

The Antique Hunter’s Guide to Murder by C.L. Miller (February 6, 2024)

3 stars

This was a fun cozy mystery that I enjoyed listening to. I felt instantly transported to England and like I was trying to figure out the clues along with Freya and her Aunt Carole. The Antique Hunter’s Guide to Murder is a debut novel which this did feel like. There was quite a bit of unnecessary info and the opening quotes before each chapter were distracting. I do hope that future books in this series the plot and pacing are tightened up but I am looking forward to seeing what hijinks Freya and her Aunt get up to in the series.
