This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve been reading The Mysteries of Uldolpho since the very end of July. I was reading a little bit everyday but I got away from that about halfway through August. Yesterday I picked it back up and I’m hoping to continue reading some every day. I had no idea until I started this book that it is 700 pages and it is incredibly descriptive. I am 20% in and not a lot has happened but I am enjoying reading it. I may put it down for Victober since it is actually a Georgian period novel but my goal is to finish it this year.

Shift is technically the second book in the Wool series but it is actually a prequel to the first novel. I really enjoyed Wool and I’m disappointed by how much I am not enjoying Shift. And I will reading the third book in this series and I’m hopeful I will like it more once it gets back to the original story. I have 30% more to go and unless the ending completely blows me away this is probably a two star read.

In the Distance is a book from my 23 to read in 2023 list that I am utterly failing at. I don’t think I’ve ever read a western before but so far I’m finding it really engaging. This one is about a Swedish immigrant who accidentally gets separated from his brother and he lands on the West Coast of America during the Gold Rush and needs to get to New York.

What have you recently finished?

I read so much last month (wrap up coming soon!) that I have barely being reading this month. Which is probably a good break before all the readathons and fun stuff that’s going to happen for spooky season.

The Burning Maze is the third book in the Apollo series in the Percy Jackson world. I loved the first book so much but the last two have just been ok. I feel like there is so much talking and not a lot of action but they are humorous so I still enjoy reading them.

I only have five volumes left before I finish The Promised Neverland story. This volume is setting up for the end and I am intrigued to see how the story is going to wrap up. The entire series except for maybe one volume have been five star reads for me.

Run on Red was a unique and mostly suspenseful story about two girls that are being pursued by bad men. It could have been a lot shorter though and I skim read pages of the book at time because it would go on tangents that didn’t have much to do with anything. I would definitely check out trigger warnings for this book if you are interested in reading it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My plan was to read the entirety of the ACOTAR series this summer but I got distracted by other things. I’m looking forward to reading ACOMAF though because the first time I tried to read this I got to 60% and then put it down for other things and never came back around to it. And I actually liked ACOTAR more the second time I read it because I could appreciate all the world building that was going on so I think this story is going to grip me more too. Once I get past the beginning bit!

  1. I read another review of Shift today and that reviewer seems to agree with you. I’ve had the series on my Kindle for years, but haven’t gotten to it. But I did just finish the Silo series on Apple+ and loved it.

    1. The first time I read it I got to 66% and I feel like I stopped right before the big whatever thing happens lol But this time I’ve switched to audio which helped me get through the first book much quicker.
