June Wrap Up

I wasn’t very consistent with my blogging last month and I think that is down to the fact that I read 19 books last month! When I sat down and counted how many I read I was shocked. I had no idea it was so many but I think it’s down to getting back into romance. It is so easy for me to get wrapped up in a romance and not want to put it down until it’s done. I also read what I thought was the entire Inheritance Games series… until I finished the last one and my Kindle suggested I preorder the fourth one. Which is annoying but I’m also excited to get more from that world because I was staying up until 3 in the morning finishing these books after only planning to read a few chapters before bed.

First I’m going to share the four books I read for Romanceopoly. I kind of fell off doing this fun challenge but it worked out with all the romance that I read in June that I kept naturally picking up ones that fit the prompts.

Barbarian Alien was a surprising five star read for me. I enjoyed it so much more than the first and I’m looking forward to reading more from this series in the future.

Dark Knights series by Marlee Wray

A Rogue at Stonecliffe by Candace Camp (I also talk a bit about the first book in the series, An Affair at Stonecliffe in my review)

Everything Else

Black Buck started off strong but by the end I wasn’t quite sure what the point of the book was. I gave it three stars but I could easily be swayed to give it two.

Seven Girls Gone was another incredible addition in the Quinn & Costa series. All the crimes they are trying to solve are so twisty and layered which makes the story so engrossing I have a hard time putting these books down until I get to the end. I also love the way the personal relationship between Costa and Quinn plays out within the dynamics of the team.

I gave all three books in The Inheritance Games series five stars. I usually can’t stand a love triangle, especially in Young Adult, but this one really worked for me. I also loved the puzzles the group had to figure out. Clue being my favorite movie is probably why I rated all these books so high. Especially since the Hawthorne House is easily my new favorite “mystery” house.

Silenced by Serena Akeroyd

I actually finished The Heroes of Olympus series yesterday. I gave all the books five stars. I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series but I loved this one so much more. I appreciated all the different perspectives we got and I hope that continues on in the next series.

In Defense of Witches by Mona Chollet

Mickey Chambers Shakes it Up by Charish Reid

Dirty Talking Rival by Pippa Grant

I shared my thoughts in my linked reivew up above but I loved this series. June was the month of obsessive binge reading for me because this was another set of books that once I started I couldn’t stop reading.

The Good Lie was probably my only disappointing read this month besides Black Buck but that was a book club book so at least I had a good discussion about that one. The Good Lie had such a great premise but I think it failed to deliver on the promise. The book was told through three perspectives and one of them was completely pointless. And the second one could have been better than it was. I did think it was a great summer time thriller since it was so easy to read and had a compelling premise. I will defintely pick up more of her thrillers in the future when I’m in the mood for something light but gripping.
