This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is answer the following questions:

What are you currently reading?

I started The Year of the Witching yesterday and I’m already loving it. I’m just barely into it but based on the rave reviews it has I’m expecting it to be a five star read.

I started reading My Best Friend’s Exorcism last week for the Stabathon readathon but I didn’t get too far into it. I own it on Kindle so I think it will be my new bedtime read since I just finished an ARC I started reading in September last night. Or I might get so into it that I fly through it in a matter of days. My husband listened to the audiobook and said it definitely picks up the closer to the end you get.

The group book for Victober is The Mayor of Casterbridge. I had no idea what to expect from this book but it has been a fun read full of lots of twists and turns with the domestic drama.

I started Small Town, Big Magic to fulfill a couple of prompts for the Spoopathon and Camp Crystal Lake readathons. It’s also a Netgalley read and it’s the perfect light hearted and cozy witchy read for this time of year. I’m just over 70% in and I’m pretty sure I’m going to finish this today. And I’ll hopefully have my review up for it next week.

What have you recently finished?

So far this month I’ve read six things. Three of them were books that I previously started in other months and finished this month.

Ring Shout and The Devil Takes You Home were both five stars read for me. Both had beautiful writing and used horror elements to tackle hard topics. Ring Shout is a novella so it was easy to fly through. The Devil Takes You Home was more a slow paced and methodical book that takes its time to build to an explosive and unexpected ending.

I gave four stars to The Woods are Always Watching, Master of Crows and The Prisoner. I will have a review for The Prisoner up at the end of the month. Master of Crows took me awhile to get into but once I finally did I couldn’t put it down. I loved the world Draven created and the romance was great. I immediately bought the second book in the series when I finished it. The Woods are Always Watching had a first half that only served to set up all the chaos and drama of the second half. It was a fun time and I think Perkins did a great job with the suspense.

I read Welcome to the Goddamn Ice Cube for my book club and none of us liked it. The way the story is told was all over the place and hard to follow. It felt like it needed better editing because whatever the purpose for the author sharing these stories was lost.

What do you think you’ll read next?

This is October’s pick for the Literally Dead book club.

What could be worse than your ex-boyfriend marrying your childhood best friend? Getting accused of her murder…

From the author of My Sweet Girl comes a dangerously addictive new thriller about a lavish Sri Lankan wedding celebration that not everyone will survive.

When Amaya is invited to Kaavi’s over-the-top wedding in Sri Lanka, she is surprised and a little hurt to hear from her former best friend after so many years of radio silence. But when Amaya learns that the groom is her very own ex-boyfriend, she is consumed by a single thought: She must stop the wedding from happening, no matter the cost.

But as the weeklong wedding celebrations begin and rumors about Amaya’s past begin to swirl, she can’t help but feel like she also has a target on her back. When Kaavi goes missing and is presumed dead, all evidence points to Amaya.

However, nothing is as it seems as Jayatissa expertly unravels that each wedding guest has their own dark secret and agenda, and Amaya may not be the only one with a plan to keep the bride from getting her happily ever after…
