This fun weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Lazarus is Lars Keplers newest release in their Joona Lima series and it is a unique take on a Nordic Noir. This book has Joona and the team of detectives dealing with a brutal serial killer from their past who is possibly back and they are trying to find him while also keeping themselves and their families safe.

I am so close to being done with Women, Race and Class. I try to read one essay a day since I have picked this back up and I am constantly underlining and marking things in this book. This is a must read book and I cannot recommend it enough.

Last week I fell into a hole of watching true crime documentaries and I watched all three of the West Memphis 3 ones on HBO Max. I also watched a few other ones about people wrongfully convicted and so I thought I would try to find some books about them. I could only find one at my local library but I have a list of ones that I am hoping to read. I just picked up Life After Death today at the library so I have only read through the author’s note and I can already tell that it is going to be an eye opening book about life on death row. For background: Damien Echols and two other teenagers were arrested and convicted of killing three 8 year old boys based on the belief that they were in a Satanic cult together and the murders were a part of a Satanic ritual. There are other layers including a *false* confession and people perjuring themselves but the Satanic Panic of the 80’s and early 90’s is a big reason why they were even arrested.

What did you recently finish reading?

I usually don’t watch tv because I prefer to read but that wasn’t the case with all the documentaries I watched last week. Although, I think it is safe to say at this point that I am burnt out on the documentaries and I’m enjoying reading instead.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m hoping to jump into my holiday romances and this one is a part of a Harlequin blog tour that I’m taking part in next week.

Synopsis: There’s no place like Happily Inc for the holidays…

Wynn Beauchene has a thriving business, a great kid and a mildly embarrassing crush on the guy next door—local cop Garrick McCabe. She’s a strong, independent woman who can’t help dreaming what-if about a man she barely knows. Until he needs her help…

Garrick’s pregnant daughter will be home for Christmas, and his house needs a woman’s touch. Garrick and his little girl were tight once and he’s hoping a small-town Christmas will bring her back to him. But thawing his daughter’s frosty attitude will take more than a few twinkle lights. Maybe sharing the holiday with Wynn and her son will remind her of the joy of family.

As the season works its magic on these wounded souls, Wynn realizes it’s time to stop punishing herself for a painful secret, while Garrick remains haunted by the ghosts of past mistakes. Will he allow Wynn to open the only gift she truly wants—his heart?
