Mini Netgalley Reviews #2

I’m back today with another round up of books that have been languishing on my Netgalley shelf waiting to be reviewed. Most of these books I read years ago and never got around to reviewing for one reason or another.

This was a fun historical romance with a strong heroine that I enjoyed rooting for. I gave this three stars since I found it to be repetitive and it dragged a bit at times.

This is an atmospheric YA mystery about a girl trying to unravel the death of her friend in a small Alaskan town. I remember flying through this book because I just need to know what was going to happen next. However, this book was published in 2018 and I am not sure how well it has aged.

This is a horror anthology where I liked or loved every single story. This book is a collection of short stories by 19 black authors and it was great getting to read from such a large variety of people. I also thought it was clever to have so many different horror sub genres in this collection so there is truly something for everyone.

Burnt Sugar is a brutal story about the complexities of mother and daughter relationships set in India. The book is told in past and present timeline and deals with some hard topics that could be triggering to read. I really enjoyed seeing how past actions have informed the current relationship between the Mom and daughter and how it affected how the daughter was raising her kid.
