I’m a few weeks late on this but I always enjoy looking back on previous years answers so I wanted to carve out some time today to share my 2025 Mid Year Freakout Tag. My reading has been a bit all over the place this year and my total books read number is so high because I read a few Kindle collections where each audiobook averages two hours but overall I think I have read a lot of really great books.
Best Book
No surprise on this one since I’m obsessed with these characters and this world but WOW did this one leave on a cliffhanger.
Worst Book
I tried to read The Real Thing collection from Kindle back in February and really did not get on with the first two books so I decided to abandon the series. They are both non fiction essays that perhaps are just outdated since this collection is from 2018 but I gave The List 2 stars and Boyfriends of Dorothy 1 star.

Biggest disappointment
This was my first read of 2025 and unfortunately it was a 2 star read for me.
Biggest surprise
I rarely read YA books anymore but Barnes and Noble was selling a cool sprayed edge edition of this book for $5 in the cafe so I bought it and loved every second of reading it. I’ve been waiting for the sequel to come to paperback so I can read more from these characters.
New favorite author
Late last year I started reading The Keeper of the Lost Cities series on the recommendation of my oldest son and I’m currently reading the sixth book in the series and I think Messenger has done an absolutely incredible job with this series. Each book is so good but yet each one is better than the last.
Favorite fictional crush
My latest obsession and I can’t believe we have to wait until next summer for the next book in this trilogy.
Newest favorite character
Just like Keeper of the Lost Cities I started this series last year and I have been continuing it this year and only have two more left before I’m caught up. I adore the characters in this series so much and will probably reread the series before the eighth book comes out… hopefully next year.

All of my Fairyloot books are so gorgeous but this edition has to be my favorite of the year.
