Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six follows three couples who are renting a luxury cabin in the middle of nowhere. Hannah and her husband, Hannah’s brother and his wife, and Hannah’s best friend and her new boyfriend are the six staying at the cabin but we also get multiple other perspectives that all help to frame the story. As the story interweaves between all the different characters and different timelines it all culminates in what happens at the cabin.

Unger did a great job creating an atmospheric and unsettling setting. Beyond the cabin having a questionable background and host there is also a horrible storm that comes through that leaves them even more isolated. I also enjoyed all the different characters because I just wanted to keep reading to see how they were all connected. And it was not the story I thought we were getting when the pieces started coming together. But it was really interesting and thought provoking in a few different ways that I don’t want to spoil here. I also liked the pacing of the story because we never seemed to spend too long in one place. Especially since there are so many characters and some of the story is told in the past so I had some parts that I liked more than others.

While I enjoyed how the characters helped to tell the whole story and they kept me engaged I did find the majority of them unlikeable. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a murder mystery because I didn’t really care who lived or died. I also thought that one of the side stories was pointless because while it did give more understanding to the motivations I ultimately thought it wasn’t necessary.

If you enjoy multi perspective thrillers then I think this was a fun one. I do recommend you take the audiobook route though because I think the narrator also played a part in my enjoyment of this story.
