Today I thought I would put together a list of my favorite reads so far this year. And to make it more challenging for myself I decided to pick only one favorite per each genre. My goal here is to share the love of some of my favorites in the hopes of persuading someone to pick them up so for that reason I have left off any ARC’s that have’t come out yet.
Favorite Mystery
I’ve read a lot of great mysteries but nothing tops my reading experience with this book. I listened to it on audio and as an avid true crime podcaster listener this felt so real to me.
Favorite Romance

Lucy Score has become one of my favorite authors and the Riley Thorn series is current favorite series. These books are laugh out loud funny with an amazing cast of characters. I also love the psychic aspect mixed with crime solving.
Favorite Thriller

This is a dark and heart wrenching thriller. I started this one night after dinner and didn’t stop reading until the last page. It was so atmospheric and suspenseful but also mixed with a lot of heart. I got emotional at some points and literally held my breath at others. I was also shocked when I got to the end and found out this story was loosely based on a true story.
Favorite Fantasy
I mentioned earlier that True Crime Story was my favorite mystery reading experience but Piranesi is my favorite reading experience that I have ever had. This story is so unique in that part of the story is the way it unfolds before you. I had a million thoughts when reading this book and took so many notes in the margins. The feelings every single page brought out on me was something so unexpected and new to me. I will definitely be rereading this book again (maybe yearly!) because I think there is something so magical about this book.
Favorite Short Story
This is only 62 pages and despite the countless books I’ve read since this one I can still vividly remember the entire story. It’s a hauntingly beautiful story that perfectly captures so much humanity and emotion. Foster is a testament to the power of the written word and storytelling. I have only read two of her works but she is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors.
Favorite SciFi
This may only be 75 pages but out of the few science fiction books I’ve read this year this was by far the best. I gave it five stars and haven’t stopped thinking about it since.
