This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions:

What are you currently reading?

I had to put Icebreakers down because it no longer worked with the prompts my team is working for Escape the Readathon. And then when it fit again Evocation had come in the mail on Monday and I immediately started it. I am obsessed with this book and will finish it today. It gives me Atlas Six meets Ninth House vibes.

I have been putting off The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue but I finally picked it up because it was my bookclub’s pick. And I think because of the hype this book gets I was expecting this book to be more than it is. I am only halfway through though so I have my fingers crossed that the second half will be stronger for me.

What have you recently finished?

I really enjoyed all three of all these reads. Tastes Like Candy and its sequel were both fun horror slasher novels filled with dark humor. The kills are crazy but not overly graphic which I appreciated.

The Wren, the Wren was a beautifully written book about generational trauma. It has been shortlisted for the Women’s Prize in fiction and I think it will at least be long listed for the Booker this summer. Also, I think my enjoyment of this book reflects how much writing style impacts how I feel about a book. The Wren, the Wren is much like Addie La Rue where not a lot is happening and it’s kind of a meandering story but this one has more depth to it so I feel more connected to the stories and characters.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I don’t know if this will work for whatever the next prompt is that my Escape the Readathon team will be working on but I want to read this as soon as possible. I’m in the mood for a fun little thriller on my Kindle that I can fly through. I previously tried reading Jeneva Rose’s The Perfect Marriage but it was too ridiculous for me but I enjoyed the pacing and writing.

Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives, she’s pleasantly surprised to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells. But there are things Grace discovers that she’s not too pleased about: A lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn’t right with the town.

Despite her uneasiness and misgivings from Calvin’s friends and family, the two grow close and start to fall for one another. However, as her departure date nears, things between them start to change for the worse. Grace grows wary of Calvin as his infatuation for her seems to turn into obsession. Calvin fears that Grace is hiding something from him.

Told from dual points of view, You Shouldn’t Have Come Here is a thrill ride and a cautionary tale of what can go wrong when you open up your house and your heart to a total stranger.
