Happy Valentine’s Day! This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is to answer the following questions:
What are you currently reading?

At this point it’s more like what am I not reading! I only have a couple of stories left in A Sliver of Darkness so that will be done by the weekend. I was enjoying the stories more at the beginning so I’m hoping the last two bring that back.
From Below is a buddy read I’m doing with Allison on a Book Break’s YouTube channel. The book is broken up into sections where we stop and she posts a video sharing her thoughts and then we comment ours. Then we move onto the next section until we finish. Usually there are three to four stops. Darcey Coates does atmosphere so well and I’m really enjoying this story.
My current audiobook(s) are the tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn. I’m so happy I decided to go with the tandem read because I would be so annoyed if I had to read an entire book of Chaol. I know a lot of people love him but for me he is one of the worst characters. I understand that his book is important to the overall story so I’m working my way through it. But it did occur to me yesterday that my biggest problem with Throne of Glass is how absurdly young the three main characters we started with are. It’s hard to take any of them seriously but I do know that Sarah J. Maas was young when she started this series.
Yesterday I picked up War and Peace for the first time in a week. I read for a long chunk of time so I plowed through about 100 pages. I’m pretty sure I’m still behind in the read along but I figure if I have a day or two a week where I read a lot of it that I’ll eventually get to where I need to be. While I don’t absolutely love the war scenes I do enjoy all the politics and behavior of the men who are fighting. This is my third (maybe) Tolstoy and I think he just nails humanity in an effortless way.
What have you recently finished?

I loved Starling House! One of my favorite books of all time and I already want to reread it. Another house trope book that I love just as much of this one (and thus is also one of my favorite books of all times) is We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. Both have broken strong female protagonists and a house that is so much more than a house written with beautiful prose all wrapped up in a gothic atmosphere. As usual I will have a review coming for this one. (I do have some partially written I just need to polish them up and post them!)
One of the book tubers that I watch, Dusty Book Sniffers, has a fun reading challenge that I decided to join. It’s a jenga book challenge that gives us one prompt a week to complete. She just started it last week and the first prompt was to read a graphic novel/manga so I picked the next volume up in the Something is Killing the Children horror series. This volume wrapped up the storyline we had been following so I’m curious what the next few are about.
What do you think you’ll read next?
My preorder of this came in yesterday and I can’t wait to pick it up. It’s only 147 pages so it will probably be a one or two sitting read. No synopsis since this is the second book in the series. Oh, and this also works for the second prompt for the jenga challenge: read a book from your favorite author.
