This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and all you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions.

What are you currently reading?

I recently started reading The Tyrant’s Tomb again and I like this series while I’m reading it but it is hard to want to pick them up.

Of course I couldn’t wait to start Hunting Adeline as soon as I finished the first one. I actually purchased the books because they are gorgeous and I love Carlton’s writing.

I am loving The Way We Live Now. I can never predict what these characters are going to do and what is happening next. It is hard to put this book down when I have gotten through my daily chapters. But I’m also enjoying reading the book this way since I get to anticipate what is going to happen next.

A friend of mine recommended Sunshine to me and it worked out perfectly because I needed a book with birds on the cover for spookopoly and I didn’t have one. I then remembered Sunshine and the first cover on Goodreads had birds on it. I’m only 20 or so pages in and so far its giving me Sookie Stackhouse vibes but we’ll see where the story goes.

I can’t get over how long it took me to read the first volume of The Mysteries of Uldopho and now I have a hard time putting this book down. I am living for the action and the drama in this book and it is actually the perfect book to read this time of year.

What have you recently finished?

I finally finished A Court of Silver Flames. It was way too long but at the same time it made me tear up multiple times so I gave it four stars.

Haunting Adeline was the perfect dark romance read that I was wanting it to be. It is only the second time I’ve read a non con/ dub con dark romance. I knew going into this book that it was going to push the boundaries and I think Carlton did a wonderful job telling this story. Months ago I read Satan’s Affair and I love how seamlessly Carlotn weaved those two books together.

A friend lent me a copy of The Family and I decided to pick it up over the weekend because it’s less than 200 pages. It is a story about a cult that I thought was intriguing but the ending was awful. It was over in less than a blink of an eye and had no payoff.

I needed a book with a green cover for spookopoly and I’ve had Mating the Temptress on my Kindle for awhile. I’m so happy that I decided to pick it up because it was a quick fun read that is set during Halloween.

I DNF’d both of these books this past week. I went to read Salem’s Lot by Stephen King and I know that I own it but I can’t find it anywhere. So I still hope to read it but I decided to switch it out for Tell Me I’m Worthless. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up liking this. I liked where the author was going and I do think that real life plays into horror really well but this was too much for my taste. There is an unnecessary amount of sexual assault, transphobia, and overall hate in this book. The author was just too overhanded and I just didn’t want to pick this book up anymore.

I didn’t realize that The Cotton Candy Massacre is written like a screenplay and I don’t enjoy that style. I was still intrigued by the story so I’m happy I got into the groove of reading it. However, I couldn’t believe when I was at the 50% mark because I was so bored. Just like I prefer my smut to be more plot heavy I also want my horror to be that way as well.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My next read for Halloweekendathon.

Three dark and disturbing horror stories from an astonishing new voice, including the viral-sensation tale of obsession, Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke . For fans of Kathe Koja, Clive Barker and Stephen Graham Jones. Winner of the Splatterpunk Award for Best Novella.

A whirlpool of darkness churns at the heart of a macabre ballet between two lonely young women in an internet chat room in the early 2000s—a darkness that threatens to forever transform them once they finally succumb to their most horrific desires.

A couple isolate themselves on a remote island in an attempt to recover from their teenage son’s death, when a mysterious young man knocks on their door during a storm…

And a man confronts his neighbour when he discovers a strange object in his back yard, only to be drawn into an ever-more dangerous game.

Three devastating, beautifully written horror stories from one of the genre’s most cutting-edge voices.

What have you done today to deserve your eyes?
