Summerween Wrap Up

I had five books on my Summerween TBR and I read four of them and DNF’d the last one. It wasn’t a very good selection of books but one of them was a five star read so at least it wasn’t a total loss.

I DNF’d A Three Book Problem because it was boring. I didn’t care for the characters and it was repetitive. The main character would have a conversation with someone and then immediately go into a different room and repeat the conversation. It was driving me crazy so I decided to just put the book down.

Earthdivers was a three star read.. I bought the second one and I’m willing to give it three volumes before I decide to ditch the series or not. The premise was interesting but boring. I’m hoping the action speeds up as the story progresses.

The Work Retreat was a quick and easy read but the ending lowered it to two stars. It was an ok thriller that did have a good tension but the ending was ludicrous and there was no real resolution.

And the worst book of the week (and year) easily goes to the The Warning. I can’t believe that I actually read this book and it was so terrible. There was just something about it that kept me engaged and wanting to overlook all my issues with it. But there is no real twist. Nothing is connected and is just a hodge podge of a story that has a ridiculous ending. I honestly don’t know what was the point of this book. And it has major content warnings for death of kids that is referenced many times, emotional and mental abuse, on page domestic abuse, kidnapping, and a bizarre “twist” where the only LGBT character was a villain. I wish that I could give this zero stars and do not recommend at all.

Thankfully, I also read The Perfect Son for Summerween and this is one of my favorite thrillers of the year. I loved this one so much. I cannot rave about Frieda McFadden anymore other than I have decided it is my mission to read every single book she has ever written. I love the way she constructs her thrillers and how well thought out they are. I recommend going into her books knowing nothing. And if you can, try to not even read the synopsis.
