This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words  and all you need to do to participate is answer the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

My family and I went camping over the weekend and I needed an ebook so I started The Safe Place on my Kindle for the Jurassic Park square for the Pop Culture Readathon Thriller Board. The Jurassic Park square is to read a book that is set near an island/coast/body of water which you can tell from the cover that this book definitely fulfills this prompt. This is an interesting story and I have no idea where the it is going to take me which I think is a good sign when it comes to thrillers.

Last week I started listening to the Black Flamingo on audio since it is a book written in verse and it is narrated by the author. I am really loving this one and it is bringing up so many interesting thoughts and ideas when it comes to being mixed. My mom is half Native American and half Spanish but she was adopted by a white family so that is a part of me that I have never claimed and this book is making me rethink and question how I view my own identity.

Before we left for camping I started reading Thunderhead for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer square. This prompt is to read a book with a chosen one trope. I have been flying through this one and I am remembering how much I love this series.

I brought A Thousand Mornings to read while camping but I only got halfway through it, which is annoying since it is such a small collection of poetry. I am so happy I brought it though because I feel like being outdoors while reading this is the best way to fully immerse yourself into the poems. This is my first Mary Oliver and I know that she is a very popular nature writer. I live in an area that is bursting with nature all around me so I will definitely be reading more from her in the future. For now, I will be finishing this book in my backyard in the mornings when it is still somewhat cool outside.

What have you recently finished reading?

I will have reviews up for both of these books soon. I will say that I didn’t end up loving A Sweet Mess as much as I wanted to and Red At The Bone is one of my favorite books I have read this year.

What do you think you will read next?

I need to finish all my current reads and then I will be reading the last part of this book. I have put it down since July started but I will be finishing it before the month ends.
